'Morally wrong' - alcohol promotions under fire

by isleofman.com 9th September 2009

The head of the Manx Government's drug and alcohol team says he believes the selling of cheap alcohol in supermarkets as a loss leader is 'morally wrong'.

Bill Malarkey was speaking after the British Medical Association suggested there should be a ban on the advertising of alcohol and its sponsorship of major sporting events.

Mr Malarkey says he believes such a ban WOULD make a difference on the Island but is highly unlikely to happen.

However, he says his team is making positive progress with the issue on the Island.
