Tagging programme a success

by isleofman.com 9th September 2009

Basking shark researchers say they are pleased with this year's satellite tagging programme, after attaching the electronic devices to eight of the giants of the sea.

Each year the Manx Wildlife Trust tags some specimens which are then tracked to see where they go.

In previous years, the tags have shown the sharks have a much wider range than previously thought.

Marine officer for the organisation Eleanor Stone says this year, all eight of the tags were attached successfully, and now it's a waiting game (play audio file):

You can hear more of that interview on Mannin the Wild, next Tuesday at 6pm.
