Jury to be selected for Baines trial

by isleofman.com 9th September 2009

A jury is expected to be picked and sworn in this morning at the trial of millionaire businessman Trevor Baines and his wife, Wendy.

They deny false accounting and Mr Baines has pleaded not guilty to a further charge of money laundering.

Yesterday saw lengthy legal arguments behind closed doors before the public and press were admitted into the courtroom.

Acting Deemster Birkett was told a jury would be selected this morning, but the trial wouldn't proceed until next Tuesday.

The trial is being held at Douglas Courthouse and is expected to last up to five weeks.
