Double appointment at Douglas church

by isleofman.com 8th September 2009

A husband and wife who are both ordained priests have been appointed to positions in the same parish in the Isle of Man for the first time.

At St Thomas's in Douglas last night, Bishop Robert licensed Reverend Ian Brady as priest in charge at the church.

In the same service, his wife Lynda was made a non-stipendiary priest, and chaplain to Isle of Man Hospice.

It's 22 months since the Reverend Ernest Pettingell stood down as resident vicar at St Thomas's, on the grounds of ill health.

Since then services had been taken by another retired vicar, Canon Hinton Bird.

The last chaplain of Isle of Man Hospice was Shelia Breffitt.

Following last night's service Bishop Robert has another, similar duty later this week.

On Friday evening he will be licensing the Reverend John Coldwell as priest in charge of the parish of St Ninian's.
