Millionaire and wife go on trial

The trial of an Isle of Man-based millionaire and his wife starts at Douglas Courthouse today.

Sixty-eight-year-old Trevor Baines of Africa House, Woodbourne Road, Douglas, has entered not guilty pleas on charges of money laundering and false accounting.

Fifty-year-old Wendy Baines has also pleaded not guilty to false accounting.

The case is expected to last four or five weeks and evidence is due to be heard from 20 witnesses.

They include two based in New York and one in California, who are expected to answer questions via video link.
