Figures prove August was a wet one!

by isleofman.com 4th September 2009

Last month was almost twice as wet as usual and the second-windiest August on record, according to figures released by the Isle of Man Meteorological Office.

Temperatures were similar to the long-term average, but for the first time since August 1993 it didn't get any hotter than 20 degrees celsius.

A hundred and nineteen millimetres of rain fell at Ronaldsway during the month, nearly double the long-term average.

The wettest day was Wednesday the 19th, when 25.7 millimetres were recorded.

The average wind speed was four knots above normal and there were 20 fewer hours of sunshine than usual.

A thunderstorm was observed at Ronaldsway on August 20, and fog was recorded on the seventh.
