Food or fuel?

by isleofman.com 3rd September 2009

A decision between heating or eating.

That’s the stark situation some Island pensioners could face this winter, according to a charity chief executive.

The head of Age Concern was speaking after a new report claimed UK pensioners are being forced to cut down on their energy use because of soaring fuel bills.

The findings, by the Institute of Financial Studies, revealed the elderly are spending five times more on fuel, despite the fact older households actually cut their consumption.

Penny Creighton says the position is also serious in the Isle of Man.
