Manx2.com staff at Ronaldsway Airport gave customers on a flight to Newcastle a Geordie welcome last week.
On Thursday (27th August), passengers to Newcastle were greeted by Manx2.com Chairman, Noel Hayes, and his ground staff, wearing Newcastle United football kits!
Manx2.com decided to reinstate their Newcastle route following the announcement earlier in the month by Eastern Airways that they were to withdraw their own service to the city.
Newcastle is the eighth route operated by Manx2.com from the Isle of Man.
Noel Hayes comments, “The knock-on effect of losing such an important route as Newcastle would have a severe effect on tourism, leisure travel and of course the Manx business community, so we will do everything in our power to maintain this key connection.
“With our low fares from ?39.95, initial bookings on the route have been very strong and we are optimistic that we can increase frequency on this route and start to grow passenger numbers again next year.”
Dave Laws, Chief Executive of Newcastle International Airport, adds, “We are very pleased that Manx2.com has stepped in to keep this vital route open.
"Links between the Isle of Man and North East England are essential for many businesses in our region.
“It is especially important during a period of recession that we look to retain and enhance the region’s connectivity to destinations such as this, in order to ensure that the North East is in a position to emerge strongly from the current downturn.
"We will be working closely with Manx2.com to ensure this route is a long-term success.”
