Facelift for 'Harrods of the west'

by isleofman.com 1st September 2009

The Western Civic Amenity Site closes today (Tueday) for a major facelift.

The facility in St John's is being redeveloped at a cost of around ?700,000 and is not due to re open until February next year.

Residents are being advised to take their waste to one of the Island's other three civic amenties, which are in Bride, Port St Mary and Douglas. There are also recycling collection points nearby in St John's, Peel and Kirk Michael.

The project to update the western site proved controversial, with some local people arguing it worked well as it was.

Chairman of the site committee David Talbot says it is in need of an update.
