Requiem for former Bishop this week

by isleofman.com 31st August 2009

There's to be a requiem at Peel Cathedral this week for former Bishop Noel Jones.

Bishop Noel, who came to the Island in 1989, passed away on Friday evening at the age of 76.

He had been ill with cancer for several months and had spent his last few days at a hospice in Scarborough.

In addition to being Bishop of Sodor and Man he was also Dean of the Church of St German.

The requiem will be a simple service of Holy Communion, giving thanks for his ministry to the church, and all are welcome regardless of denomination.

President of Tynwald Noel Cringle says Bishop Noel was very fond of the Island and had a real feeling for its people:

The service will be at 7pm on Wednesday.
