Future of the Claddaghs: public meeting

by isleofman.com 26th August 2009

A public meeting's been called in Sulby next week to discuss growing concerns over the future of the Claddaghs.

Local pub landlord Eddie Christian went to the Captain of the Parish with enough signatures to call a requisition meeting.

Sulby Claddaghs is a popular spot for day trips and camping but there's been growing concern locally about anti-social behaviour at the site and the amount of litter left there.

The Department of Agriculture is holding a public consultation on how the site should be used in future. Proposals include reducing the land availabe for camping and extra security.

Captain of the parish of Lezayre Dennis Duggan says the Claddaghs need to be properly managed.

The meeting is on Tuesday, September 1 at 7.30pm st St Stephen's Church Hall on the Sulby Straight.
