Tesco pre-inquiry next month

by isleofman.com 21st August 2009

Contentious proposals to expand the Tesco store in Douglas will be the subject of a pre-inquiry meeting next month.

If approved, the supermarket plans would create up to 250 new jobs in the Island.

However, the proposed scheme, which also includes a near doubling of car parking spaces to 566, has met a mixed response with concerns such an expansion would jeopardise smaller retail businesses.

The inspector in charge of the inquiry, which is due to start in November, hopes interested parties will first address related issues and explain how the evidence will be presented.

The meeting will be held on September the 11th at the Strathallan Suite in Douglas.
