There will be a mix of Manx and Manchester connections at the Henry Bloom Noble library on Thursday 17th September when it hosts a family evening with children’s author Steve Wood.
He will be reading from and signing copies of his latest book, The Angels of Mona Terrace, much of which is set in the Isle of Man, the story inspired by the many holidays he took with his parents and two brothers in a guest house on Mona Terrace.
One of the stars of the book is the Steam Packet’s Manxman, the other Sir William Hillary, founder of the RNLI.
Meanwhile, the setting for the start of the story is Levenshulme, south of Manchester, which is the author's place of birth.
Steve Wood began writing while at drama school and appeared in two of his own children’s books. During a six-year stint with the Children’s Channel he wrote and performed comedy sketches and stories.
He co-wrote 80 episodes of the sit-com TCC Express and went on to co-produce The Steve and Danny Show.
Other television writing has included FLIP for Children’s BBC and sketches for Yorkshire TV. When not writing he works as an actor and presenter.
He has previously held creative writing workshops at Dhoon and St Mary’s primary schools and will be running two sessions on Tuesday 15th September at the library, one with pupils from Fairfield Primary School, the other with pupils from St Thomas’s.
The Angels of Mona Terrace was published by Priory Press of Ballasalla in May 2009 and is aimed at older children, (eight and upwards) and adults.
The evening will start at 7pm and is expected to finish by 8.30pm. Refreshments will be provided by CMI.
Tickets are free but must be collected in advance from the ground floor counter of the library.
