'Stay alert, stay alive' - MGP road safety campaign launched

by isleofman.com 20th August 2009

This year's Manx Grand Prix road safety camapign has been launched under the banner Stay Alert, Stay Alive.

It's the same message as used in TT and again features stark images of bikers who lost their lives on the mountain course.

Today's launch at the Creg ny Baa is a joint initiative between the Isle of Man police and the Department of Transport.

Police have warned they will put extra patrols - some in unmarked cars - on accident blackspts around the course.

Video footage of reckless driving will be used in court if necessary.

The number of serious accidents during the MGP have fallen over the past three years.

MHK David Quirk, department member, says that's a trend he wants to see continue.
