by isleofman.com 19th August 2009

The Isle of Man Under 15s have battled their way into the semi-finals of the ICC European Division Two Championships in Italy.

On Tuesday, they faced Gibraltar in their final league match, knowing defeat would send them into the play-offs for the bottom four positions.

Batting first the Manx were in trouble at 85 for 5, but Shaun Kelly hit an excellent 59 before having to retire injured.
The Island ended on 176 for 8 which didn’t look enough when Gibraltar reached 68 for 2.

Then Kelly sparked a remarkable collapse which saw eight wickets fall for just 40 runs. Shaun took 3 for 25 from 7 overs and Adam McAuley claimed 2 for 2 as Gibraltar were dismissed for 108.

The Island now plays Germany in the first semi-final on Thursday morning in Pianore. The other semi sees Italy meet Belgium.
