THE Department of Home Affairs has announced that it is seeking to achieve greater efficiency by centralising its purchasing of good and services across all its divisions.
Consequently, the Department is now recruiting for a Purchasing Manager to set up and head centralised procurement of goods and services for the police, fire and rescue service, probation and prison services plus emergency planning and communications.
The part-time post has been created within the Department’s existing personnel, following a review of job responsibilities.
It will be based at the Chief Executive’s Office at Homefield on Woodbourne Road, Douglas and is planned to improve efficiency and save money.
DHA Director of Finance Paula Primrose explains, "The new role will ultimately work with all divisions of the Department to achieve better value for money procurement of goods and services.
"The Purchasing Manager will bring essential procurement expertise and experience to the Department, and will be responsible for identifying where savings can be made for all the divisions of the Department."
Creation of the new part-time post has been approved by Home Affairs Minister Adrian Earnshaw MHK.
He comments, "Obviously supplies of certain goods required by the Department are specialised such as equipment for fire appliances and body armour but there is every reason to expect that economies of scale will result in savings being achieved and I support the Director of Finance in her drive to achieve greater efficiencies across the Department.
"Recruiting a Purchasing Manager is a small but significant step in achieving that and I look forward to seeing results."
Full details of the job currently being advertised can be found on the Department’s website at http://www.gov.im/dha/vacancies.gov.
Applications for the post of Purchasing Manager must be received by the Department by 5pm on Wednesday 26th August 2009.
