Planned change to litter control regulations

Businesses of every kind will become responsible for keeping the areas outside their premises free of litter, if proposed new regulations are introduced.

The tighter controls would affect offices, factories, shops and take-aways and are being welcomed by Douglas Borough Council, which has been calling for a tougher stance for some time.

At present the Corporation is responsible for keeping such areas tidy when they are in public places, but Works Committee chairman Ritchie McNicholl says there's no reason why the Town Hall should continue to carry the can:
