Steam Packet Supports Young Learning

by isleofman.com 10th August 2009

The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company is supporting the Isle of Man Children’s Centre in its bid to provide off Island learning opportunities for groups of local young people.

The Company is subsidising the travel of three groups of young people taking part in the Charity’s Mobex initiative, as they journey to experience kayaking and surfing in Northern Ireland and mountaineering in Scotland.

The Isle of Man Children’s Centre Development Manager Rebecca McCauley said, “With the support of the Steam Packet Company, we have been able to travel off Island at low cost.

"At the heart of Mobex is experiential learning. By experiencing the adventurous and creative activities young people are able to learn about themselves, their behaviours and their abilities and can then transfer that learning back into their everyday life.

"These trips are extremely important.”

Isle of Man Steam Packet Company Chief Executive Mark Woodward said, “These Mobex trips are vital to the development and learning of young people.

"For this reason we were more than happy to help towards the cost of travel for these groups and their vehicles.”

Mobex Isle of Man utilises a range of creative opportunities such as outdoor education, music and the arts, which enable young people to develop at their own pace whilst maintaining a safe environment.

Through challenges including adventure activities and creative projects, young people discover new social and emotional skills to help them succeed in their lives and deal with the many issues that adolescence and early childhood bring.
