A 21 year-old man from Ramsey who tried to headbutt a police officer has been fined ?500 by Deputy High Bailiff Alastair Montgomerie.
Christopher Thomas Hardisty of Grove Mount admitted being drunk and disorderly outside Colours nightclub on July 11.
Justin Bullers, prosecuting, said police were outside the club on Douglas Promenade at 2am that morning, when they saw Hardisty being aggressive towards another man.
They feared he might assault the man and intervened, but Hardisty started to shout and swear and attempted to headbutt one of the officers.
Hardisty's advocate said he had become separated from his girlfriend who he lived with, and needed change to call her so he had asked a doorman.
Although he agreed he had sworn at police, he claimed another man had become aggressive towards him.
He couldn’t understand why he had been arrested and said he felt hard done by.
Sentencing him, Mr Montgomerie told him his behaviour towards the police was appalling.
