The success of a Manx conference on the Island's most famous marine animals can hopefully be judged in terms of measures put in place to protect them.
An international gathering discussing the future of basking sharks was held in Port Erin last week, at which experts from around the world gathered to discuss the species.
Among the items on the agenda was conservation of the sharks as they travel around the world, facing different threats in different regions.
Liza Goodwin of the UK Wildlife Trust says the conference was a good opportunity to judge how well protection measures are working:
