The Royal Manx Show, which takes place on 7th and 8th August at Staward Farm in Sulby, has always provided a showcase for innovation as well as tradition.
This year, the Manx National Farmers' Union will combine the best of both worlds with a host of interesting features.
By joining forces with key insurance partner NFU Mutual, the Isle of Man Young Farmers and visiting experts in livestock, grading and butchery from EBLEX, the Manx NFU has been able to ensure a high profile and variety of attractions.
Visitors to the Show can discover, with the help of Dave Eden from MLC Services, how the meat plant grades livestock, while Steve Powdrill from EBLEX will take visitors through a virtual tour of livestock grading.
Award-winning butcher Steve Cove will be showing meat lovers the best ways to get the most from high quality Isle of Man meat. From a top roast to a mince dish, there will be expert tips for professional chefs and butchers as well as inspiration for Manx foodies of all budgets.
Dairy lovers can discover the journey of fresh produce from farm to doorstep; there'll be an opportunity to meet dairy farmers and even have a go at ‘milking’ Docile Daisy, a model cow.
Isle of Man Creameries will be showing people how to recycle their milk cartons, letting young artists contribute to a special display and running a competition to win a Gund soft toy cow.
In the Manx NFU tent, displays will show how wheat and potatoes are grown. You can also discover more about when and where to buy fresh, seasonal Manx produce.
Capturing farming life in all its guises will be Farm Fotos for the Future, a unique rolling presentation by Susan Chambers and Pat Newton, with the backing of Manx Heritage Foundation.
Last but not least, Manx NFU’s Central Branch Secretary, Ian Quayle, will be challenging people to identify Millenium moments in his popular photographic quiz.
A spokesperson for the Manx NFU says. "Come and join us for a cuppa and find out what farming on the Isle of Man is all about.
"There will be Union staff and Members on duty throughout the two days ready to welcome farming folk and the general public. We look forward to seeing you on the show ground".
