Hospital ward remains closed

Ward One at Noble’s Hospital was still closed today, after five patients and eight staff contracted viral gastroenteritis.

The ward was closed yesterday following the outbreak, and public health bosses urged people not to go to the hospital if they developed vomiting or diarrhoea.

Instead, their advice to everybody was to stay at home, and contact their GP by telephone rather than risk spreading the infection.

Director of Public Health Dr Parameswaran Kishore says people should wait until they have properly recovered before mixing with others:
