A major international conference on basking sharks, the first of its kind on the Island, starts on Sunday.
The gathering, which includes marine experts from all over the world, was brought about by the research into the creature's migratory habits which has been carried out here.
Jackie Hall of Manx Basking Shark Watch says conferences like this are vital to ensure the future of these magnificent beasts, as there are thought to be only 8,000 left in the world.
She says the way the sharks move around requires an internationally-coordinated approach.
