'On the Buses' - DTL under fire

by isleofman.com 1st August 2009

North Douglas' MHKs have welcomed the news of the DTL's climb down over pensioner bus fares.

John Houghton labelled the department's now-delayed plan to charge senior citizens between 3.30 and 5.30pm a 'devious and underhanded trick', adding Tourism and Leisure Minister Martyn Quayle will be made to account for himself at a later date.

Meanwhile, Bill Henderson says Mr Quayle has demonstrated ,absolute arrogance and disregard to all pensioners on the Isle of Man and should be ashamed of himself.'

The proposed half-fare was due to come in on Monday but has now been put back at least until October.

Mr Houghton believes this could be part of plans to withdraw pensioners' concessions completely.
