Island to feature on Gormley's Fourth Plinth

There will be irony and a bit of Manx fun in the centre of London when an Isle of Man resident stands on Anthony Gormley’s Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square.

Members of the public have been standing on the empty plinth, forming part of an artwork by the artist who is best known for the giant sculpture Angel of the North.

Mike Bathgate of Lezayre applied for a spot on behalf of his son, but when he was accepted he discovered he couldn’t transfer the honour.

Mike, who will be on display on Sunday, August 30, between 9am and 10am, says he intends to show off the Island:
