DTL performs bus u-turn

by isleofman.com 31st July 2009

There's victory, or at least respite, for Manx pensioners this afternoon after the Department of Tourism and Leisure performed a u-turn on pensioner bus fares.

As of Monday senior citizens were set to be charged half fare between 3.30pm and 5.30pm, but that has now been put on hold until the Bus Review is completed.

It's a climbdown for the department after its decision to bring the fare in, seemingly without prior warning or consultation, was slammed by Isle of Man Transport staff, Douglas' Mayor and a number of politicians.

Manx Radio has been inundated with calls and emails from angry pensioners since we broke the story yesterday.
