'Sammy Seagull' to take flight next spring?

by isleofman.com 31st July 2009

A controversial piece of public art could be on display at the Bottleneck car park in Douglas in the first half of 2010.

The sculpture of a seagull, designed by local artist Krista Magee, is expected to cost around ?30,000 to build and install, and should be ready by next spring.

The scuplture, which is known as 'Sammy Seagull' was commissioned by the Douglas Development Partnership and the Isle of Man Arts Council.

Krista recognises the work has provoked mixed reactions, but says everyone is entitled to an opinion on art (play audio file):

Krista Magee was a guest on Manx Radio's Perspective programme.
