Swimming: Halsall Shines at Youth Olympics

15 year old Grant Halsall has once again proved his mettle by distinguishing himself at the European Youth Olympics in Finland.

 

Grant, from Laxey, won a bronze medal for Great Britain in the 200m backstroke. He finished 8th in the heats, with 2 min 07:54, to claim an outside lane in the final, where he improved his time to 2 min 05:24 for 3rd place.

 

On Friday 24th July, he competed in the 100m backstroke event and took the silver medal, with a time of 57:60.

 

On the same day, he also swam in the heats of the 4 x 100m medley relay, in which Great Britain qualified for the final. He did not swim in the final, in which the British team finished in 4th place.

 

Grant's sterling performance came on the back of his triumph at the Island Games in Aland.

 

In the 50m backstroke race, he netted a Gold Medal, a British Junior Record, an Island Games Record, and Manx Senior and Junior Records, with a time of 25.87 sec!

 

He also took Gold in the 100m and 200m backstroke and came away from the butterfly events with two silver medals.
