Pension proposals 'fall short' - PAG

by isleofman.com 27th July 2009

Flawed and Biased!

That's how a member of a local pressure group is describing a report into a review of public sector pensions in the Isle of Man.

The Positive Action Group is condemning the Hymans Robertson study which made several recommendations on how the system could be changed.

Among them were the creation of a single package for all public servants, and a lower cost final salary pension scheme.

The decision to take action was made after the general election in 2006, amid concerns the cost to the taxpayer of public sector pensions was set to become an impossible burden.

But, on Sunday Opinion, PAG member Chris Blyth said the proposals fell short of tackling the problem (play audio file):

A period of public consultation on the proposed changes finishes at the end of this month.
