High levels of sickness predicted

It's expected one in five people in the Isle of Man will be off work at the peak of the swine flu pandemic.

That's the main finding in a Government strategic plan published at the end of last week assessing the situation.

Health chiefs expect the main impact will not be people attending hospital but high levels of sickness absence.

The advice of washing hands thoroughly and contacting your GP by phone if you have symptoms, remains the same.

Director of Public Health Doctor Parameswaren Kishore says basic hygiene precautions should buy some time until a vaccine is here.
