A popular hotel in the west of the Island is set to become private accomodation after an appeal against the change failed.
A planning application to turn the Ballacallin Hotel in Dalby into a residence was approved last year.
But local residents opposed the plans and launched an appeal with the Department of Local Government.
Patrick Parish Commissioners listed 10 reasons why they believed the Ballacallin Hotel should remain as guest accomodation.
Among those were its popularity with both guests and local residents.
The Department of Tourism and Leisure also handed its support to the hotel saying some financial aid could be offered for the development of tourism facilities.
However, the planning inspector recommended the appeal be dismissed and permission be granted to Paxton enterprises - the owners of the hotel - a decision which the department has endorsed.
