The group pushing for Langness to be fully open to walkers has been accused of confusing footpaths with tracks made by livestock.

At day two of the inquiry into public rights of way on the peninsula, evidence has been heard from various people, including Ian Costain, the representative for the pressure group PRoWL (Public Rights of Way Langness).

His submissions were described by the advocate representing landowners Jeremy and Frances Clarkson as 'largely anecdotal'.

Several other people gave evidence today, including local residents and former landowners.

A Mrs Cook, who lives in the area, said she understood why the Clarksons wanted more privacy and believed the current restrictions were a small price to pay.

The chairman of the Manx Footpaths Conservation Group, Pat Moody, said she would be happy for the current restrictions to remain in place.
