Seven Barclays Wealth staff spent two days on the Calf of Man last week providing helping hands for Manx National Heritage’s restoration and conservation work.
The volunteers built new boardwalks in an area of the Calf used by the wardens to undertake essential bird conservation work.
The Calf of Man Bird Observatory is one of 19 accredited bird observatories within Britain and Ireland and plays a key role in the study of bird movements, through daily censusing and ringing of migrants.
In addition to volunteers, Barclays Wealth was able to donate ?1,000 towards the materials and other costs required for the work.
Simon Scott, Barclays Wealth Director and group leader, said ‘I would like to thank all my fellow volunteers for a tremendous group effort in supporting this important conservation scheme on the Calf of Man'
‘Barclays Wealth, as the Island’s largest private sector employer, recognises the importance of its involvement and engagement with the Island community, supporting a wide range of community projects through both funding and volunteers throughout the year.’
Manx National Heritage representative, Shaun Murphy, who also participated in the work, commented ‘We are grateful to Barclays Wealth for their contribution.
'The project carried out by the Barclays Wealth team has provided tremendous support for the wardens and makes a very effective contribution towards the important task of collecting bird data on the Calf.
'These projects are invaluable for the ongoing preservation and protection of the Island’s natural heritage.’
