Island gets tough on money launderers

by isleofman.com 21st July 2009

New laws designed to get tough on money laundering come into effect in the Isle of Man next month.

The Proceeds of Crime Act 2008 will be fully implemented by August 1.

The new legislation will bring a number of powers into force.

Deemsters will be able to issue search and seizure warrants, and production, disclosure and account monitoring orders will to come into effect.

The Proceeds of Crime Act will also enable confiscation orders to be issued.

The full implementation of the provisions was staggered to allow government and the finance industry time to adjust their training and procedures.
