Little change in unemployment

by isleofman.com 19th July 2009

Monthly figures from the Manx government show a slight increase in the number of people without work.

Last month 282 people joined the register, with a similar number - 275 - signing off.

As previously commented by Treasury Minister Allan Bell, the fact there is an increase at all is thought to be down to students returning from universities in the United Kingdom.

The number of people out of work currently stands at 922, which represents 2.2% of the economically active population.

The number of vacancies notified to the Job Centre in June was 576, and 308 position remained unfilled at the end of the month.
