After more than 20 years of debate and adjournment, work on the Bemahague secondary school will start next month.
Tynwald has approved expenditure of more than ?29.6 million on the facility, which will open for pupils in the Autmn of 2012.
There were no objections to the scheme, despite the large amount of money involved, although Onchan MHK Peter Karran warned against getting carried away with spending on buildings, because schools were more about the staff than facilities.
The new school will boast modern sports facilities, a hydrotherapy pool and special needs unit.
It will replace the St Ninian's lower school at Park Road, which has been described as 'no longer fit for purpose in the 21st century'.
Work on site will begin on August 17 and will be carried out by local firm Auldyn Construction.
