Commissioners want their say on IRIS

Peel commissioners are claiming a lack of consultation over proposals to site a sewage treatment plant within the town boundary.

Tynwald will this week debate the Department of Transport's case for regional sewage plants for the north, east and west of the Island.

It's a major re-working of the original IRIS scheme, under which all the Island's sewage would have been pumped to the Meary Veg treatment plant in Santon.

Transport minister David Anderson will tell Tynwald a regional solution is more practical and better value for money.

Chairman of the Peel board Rodger Gimbert says he and his colleagues have been offered a meeting next week, which means policy may have been decided before interested parties have had a say:
