Former Island teenager reported dead in Thailand

by isleofman.com 12th July 2009

Reports are reaching the Island, via the Internet, of the death of a teenage boy who used to live here, in a swimming pool accident in Thailand.

According to the Pattaya Daily News, 14 year-old Nathan Clark was found dead at the Pattaya Park Hotel, on Friday afternoon.

Manx police are unable to confirm the story, but there are many tributes to Nathan on his page on the Bebo social networking site.

Nathan, who moved to Thailand with his family in the past year, is said to have been swimming in the metre deep whirlpool in the hotel's water park when the accident happened.

According to the news website, he was at the water park with his Thai step-mother, who raised the alarm when she realised he was missing.

Nathan was a secondary school pupil in the Isle of Man until earlier in the current academic year, and many of the Bebo tributes are from former classmates and friends.

The Pattaya Daily News says Nathan's father works in India as an engineer, and he had been due to join him there to continue his education. It's understood Nathan's mother lives in the Isle of Man.
