David Christian on Bee Gees 'freedom' ceremony

Today's ceremony to confer the Freedom of Douglas on the Bee Gees had been many months in the planning, the original proposal having been put forward a year ago.

The council has been inundated with calls from the international media and, with brothers Barry and Robin Gibb due to arrive separately, arrangements to ensure everything ran smoothly went right to the wire.

Afterwards, a relieved David Christian told Marian Kenny that, as leader of the council, he was proud at what they had pulled off:
