The statutory body that works to improve the lives of people with disabilities in the Isle of Man has changed its name in order to reflect its modern profile.
The Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Committee is now known as the Tynwald Advisory Council for Disabilities ('Coonceil choyrlee Tinvaal cour Anlheiltyssyn').
The change came into effect on 1st July after a proposal was approved at a recent sitting of Tynwald.
The Tynwald Advisory Council for Disabilities comprises Phil Braidwood MHK Chairman, Geoff Corkish MBE MHK Vice-Chairman, Kath Parkinson (retired senior manager of disabilities, Social Services), Paul Hutchinson (CIRCA) and Liz Johnson (Manx Blind Welfare).
It provides key support to community groups and voluntary organisations and assists efforts to raise awareness of what is available and accessible for people with disabilities in the Isle of Man.
The group was also a driving force behind the introduction of the DisabledGo Isle of Man Access Guide which helps to provide a fuller picture of what the Island has to offer.
Chairman Phil Braidwood said: ‘The change of name to the Tynwald Advisory Council for Disabilities better reflects the wide-ranging nature of our role.
‘We are continuing to work alongside our community partners to enable people with disabilities to get the most out of life in the Isle of Man.’
