Isle of Man Police have launched a recruitment campaign for people to apply for places on the student officer training programme commencing January 2010.
The recruitment drive, which was launched on 9th July, is the fifth by the Constabulary since January 2007, when training became provided wholly on-Island.
A total of 37 police officers have been recruited and trained since then. The trainee officers maintain the Island’s establishment of 236 police officers, replacing officers who retire.
Staff Development Manager Inspector Keith Kinrade said ‘The successful candidates will receive 15 weeks intensive training to prepare them for duties within the Neighbourhood Policing Teams.
'We are not looking for the finished article. The organisation will invest time and resources to maximise their potential to ensure they develop into police officers capable of providing a service that the Island community not only expects but deserves.
'If you are looking for a job which allows you to specialise in a number of fields, with challenges and variety on a daily basis, then a career within the Isle of Man Constabulary is for you.'
Recruits need to be between 18 and a half and 40 years of age in January 2010 and can expect to earn around ?22,000 on commencing training, increasing to around ?24,600 after initial (30 weeks) training.
The rigorous selection process includes fitness and aptitude tests. Anyone interested is urged to attend one of the open evenings being staged by the police on July 28 and August 11 to find out more.
To reserve a place on one of the open evenings or to apply for an information pack, contact Jane McCann, Human Resources Team at Police Headquarters, telephone 631547 between 1pm and 4pm.
All the information is available on the police website www.gov.im/dha/police/vacancies.gov.
Inspector Kinrade added ‘I would encourage anyone who meets the entrance criteria and has strong core values and a genuine passion to serve their community and make a real difference to come along to one of the open evenings or talk to one of our Staff Development Team.’
The deadline for completed applications and other forms to be returned to the Isle of Man Constabulary is 5pm on 28th August.
