Mayor Wilson tackles Pyrenees 'Freedom Trail'

A Manx veteran is retracing a World War II escape route over the Pyrenees in tribute to those who gave their lives helping allied servicemen to freedom.

Major Charles Wilson, of Kensington Avenue in Douglas, is undertaking the gruelling four day walk for the Royal British Legion and has so far received over ?4,500 in sponsorship.

The route, known as the Chemin de la Liberte, or Freedom Trail, crosses from Southern France into Spain and at its highest point reaches over 8,000 feet.

Major Wilson, who is 64, has been training for the event but admits to being a little nervous:
