Manx Music Showcased at Villa Marina

by isleofman.com 10th July 2009

The Isle of Man Arts Council is delighted to bring its Manx Music Season to the beautiful Villa Marina Arcade for the first time.

This is the third Manx Music Season, and this year’s line up is as diverse as ever, covering everything from traditional Manx tunes to new work drawing on the wealth of Celtic and folk music to funk, new world and bagpipes.

The Season kicked off on 2nd July with Newspaper Dresses, a young, contemporary band featuring ukulele, vocals and whistle, and Skeeal a more traditional band featuring flutes, vocals and guitar and continues every Thursday (with the exception of 30th July) with a different line up each week until the end of August.

Emma Callin, Arts Development Manager, said ‘We are very pleased to hold another Manx Music season which appeals to visitors and residents alike. We have such a wealth of local groups keeping traditional music alive, this is a great opportunity to see some of our best home grown talent for free throughout the summer.’

The Manx dance fraternity are ably represented by the Manx Folk Dance Society and Ny Fennee, runners up in this year’s Young Dancer of Mann Competition.

The concerts start at 7.30pm and end at approximately 9pm. Admission is free.
