MHK backs pensioner in water rates fight

A Manx pensioner has taken up a fight against a system she claims is outdated and unfair, and she's being supported by one of her constituency MHKs.

The 75 year-old North Douglas resident presented a Petition for Redress of Grievance on Tynwald Day, calling for a review of the way water rates are calculated.

Bill Henderson is taking forward the petition, because he believes it's time the arrangement was given an overhaul.

He says single people shouldn't have to pay as if four or five people lived in their homes and thinks the installation of water meters could offer a workable solution for the 21st Century:
