On Sunday 12th July, the public is invited to join Manx National Heritage in the grounds of Rushen Abbey and enjoy the sounds of choral music by the Regal Singers at the annual Songs of Praise service.
The service begins at 2.30pm and visitors will be invited to join in with the well-known hymns performed by the Regal Singers, led by Musical Director Allan Wilcocks MBE and accompanied by Wendy McDowell LTCL.
Jane McGregor Edwards, Site Supervisor at Rushen Abbey said '2009 will be the ninth consecutive year that Manx National Heritage and Churches Together in Mann have organised a summer Songs of Praise service at Rushen Abbey.
'Visitors are welcome to bring a picnic to enjoy in the beautiful Abbey gardens from lunchtime and the service will commence at 2.30pm'.
Ample car parking is available at Rushen Abbey, which is also only a short walk away from Ballasalla station and bus stops. Ballasalla is regularly served by the Isle of Man Steam Railway and regular bus services including the 1, 1C, 2, 8 and X2 buses.
For their comfort, visitors are advised to bring seating or blankets with their picnics.
In case of wet weather, the service will be conducted at the Abbey Church, Ballasalla, approximately 100 yards away from Rushen Abbey.
Admission to the summer picnic and Songs of Praise service is free of charge.
Normal admission charges apply for the Abbey and Interpretative Centre.
Rushen Abbey, The Abbey Gardens and Interpretative Centre are open daily from 10am to 5pm until the end of October 2009.
