School shocked by death of teacher

by isleofman.com 7th July 2009

Tributes are being paid to Ballakermeen teacher David O'Connor who has died suddenly.

Mr O'Connor taught Design and Technology at the Douglas high school, where he was affectionately known to his friends and colleagues as 'Doc'.

A statement from the school says staff and students have been shocked and saddened by his death, at the age of 41.

His colleagues in the D&T department say he was "unflappable, jovial and supportive" and recall how he attended an 80s party dressed as Meatloaf.

Head teacher Adrianne Burnett says he was a larger than life character, who will be missed by everyone in the "Ballakermeen community":
