Tynwald Day triumph for Cavendish

by isleofman.com 6th July 2009

The most successful British cyclist in history has done it again!

Manxman Mark Cavendish followed up his comfortable win in yesterday's second stage of the Tour de France with another victory - by a much tighter margin - on Tynwald Day.

He was in a group of about 25 riders, who broke away with about 20 kilometres to go.

With support from the rest of the Team Columbia riders, Cavendish moved into position and led the charge over the line, winning by about half a bike length.

It was his sixth Tour de France stage win, following four last year, and the 43rd victory of his professional career.

It means he retains the green jersey as the points leader after three stages.

Stage three saw the field cover a distance of just under 200 kilometres, from Marseille to La Grande-Mott.
