Tynwald Day preparations finalised

by isleofman.com 5th July 2009

Final preparations are being made for what many see as the most important date in the Manx calendar - Tynwald Day.

The Island's national day, when Tynwald sits on the hill at St John's, upholds a parliamentary tradition going back more than a thousand years.

Hundreds of people are expected to descend on St John's to watch the unique ceremony and enjoy the fair and entertainment afterwards.

Among VIP guests will be the High Commissioner of India, the Archbishop of York and the Secretary General of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, who arrived in the Island this weekend.

President of Tynwald Noel Cringle says the visitors are introduced to many aspects of Manx heritage.

Manx Radio will have live coverage of Tynwald Day from St Johns on Monday morning.
