A Government visit to Washington next week aims to strengthen the Island's status as an international business centre.
Chief Minister Tony Brown MHK is heading the mission to Washington, supported by Treasury Minister Allan Bell MHK, Chief Secretary Mary Williams, Attorney General John Corlett and Director of External Relations Della Fletcher.
The visit will centre on a series of meetings with senior law makers and government officials, including influential members of the US Treasury and Financial Crimes Enforcement Network.
The delegation departs on Tuesday (7th July) ahead of a busy agenda aimed at raising the Isle of Man’s profile and reinforcing its commitment to international co-operation.
The Chief Minister said: ‘The Isle of Man has achieved tremendous progress on a number of key issues since our last official visit to Washington.
‘The most significant has been the Island’s inclusion on the OECD white list of countries complying with the global standard for tax co-operation and exchange of information.
‘However, we cannot afford to be complacent and are continually striving to protect our reputation as an outward looking nation that is both economically competitive and internationally responsible.’
He added: ‘As part of our ongoing dialogue with the United States we will meet a number of key US legislators and their staff in order to deal with any misconceptions they may have about the Isle of Man.
‘Our core message is that we welcome business in a transparent way and act in accordance with international standards.’
