MHK to ask about ?200 million Tynwald motion

by isleofman.com 30th June 2009

The Depositors Compensation Scheme, and its use for people with money in the failed Kaupthing bank, will be discussed in the House of Keys today.

There are also a number of questions relating to the Isle of Man Arts Council, but Michael MHK David Cannan will get things under way with a query about the Island's planning committee.

He will ask whether people appealing decisions can have confidence that the recommendations of planning appeal inspectors will be respected by the minister for local government and the environment.

Mr Cannan will also ask if Treasury will have a motion before the July sitting of Tynwald to borrow ?200 million pounds for the Depositors' Compensation Scheme.

Rushen MHK Quintin Gill has a number of questions relating to the Arts Council.

One is about the purpose of the body, and another asks about part of its budget being used to support the recent classical concert at the Villa Marina, to mark the inaugural TTXGP.

Other subjects up for discussion include land tax, the MEA and digital television.

Today's sitting of the House of Keys starts at 10am, and there will be live coverage of question time on Manx Radio's AM 1368 service.

There is also a sitting of the Legislative Council, from 10.30am.
